WELCOME TO MY WONDERFUL WORLD OF PRIMITIVE ART DOLLS AND ANIMALS
My name is Gerri Drobot and I was born and raised in New York, but moved to Connecticut when I was in my early teens. When I married my husband of 40 years we moved to a wonderful village in northeastern Connecticut. Hills and farmland surround us. Just a great place to raise our two children that have made us both very proud. They are making their own way in life now, and we have an “Empty Nest”, which we share with our little guy “Benji” our faithful companion.
I have been designing and needle sculpting dolls for over twenty-five years. Many of my new dolls are round headed, which takes up to six pattern pieces that are carefully sewn together and firmly stuffed. My doll heads are set in the body and are very firmly hand stitched with heavy tailor’S thread. This is where I begin needle sculpting the dolls fine head dimension and contours not a flat surface. I use many painting techniques to get just the right expression and depth, giving each dolls a unique personality..The delicate little hands and sometimes bare feet are also needle sculpted and hand sculpted, to get the hands to gently cup and the toes to turn down. The materials I use for my doll outfits are choice fabrics in homespun and cottons. I do process my material by hand to dying to get the right tones and shades. My doll clothes are carefully hand tailored and fit each doll to perfection. At times I will use vintage children's clothing, which are also hand dyed and tailored. Doll making is my passion. I work on them from early morning and sometimes into late night. My biggest desire is for my customers to open the boxes and gently turn down the tissue to discover a Primitive piece of art which will put Sunshine in their life and a smile on their face each time they glance over at their new addition.
